The projects below outline a series of stepping-stones towards the 2012 Vendée Globe solo non-stop round the world yacht race. Every project listed below has a direct influence and impact on the overall preparation towards this ultimate objective. Whether the targeted discipline be endurance, speed, navigation, technical skill development or working within teams.

Throughout my career I have experienced an array of different types of sailing and events, from world speed records to the America’s Cup to the Volvo Ocean Race. When I reached the Vendée Globe in 2004 somehow I was not completely ready for the challenge of spending up to 100 days at sea alone racing a powerful 60-foot (18m) high performance yacht around the world single-handed, without stops and without assistance.

I hope by re-tracing certain tracks of my career, now with an insight into the extremes of the Vendée Globe, and a new focus on where my energies need to be chanelled and what I need to take away from each element of training, that I can arrive at the start of the Vendée Globe in 2012-13 with an aura of total confidence in myself, the team that I am surrounded by and our tools.

La Solitaire du Figaro est à elle seule une sorte de championnat du monde de la course en solitaire. L'épreuve se court en monotype et offre aux navigateurs en solitaire le terrain de jeu idéal pour tester leurs compétences et gagner confiance en eux-mêmes et en leur équipement.

EXTREME 40 29 Nov 2006 // 15:51

Les Extreme 40 sont des multicoques de 40 pieds one-design. Ces machines conçues pour la vitesse demandent une grande réactivité et la capacité à prendre des décisions très rapides. C'est une classe idéale pour repousser les limites de la vitesse à la voile tout en apprenant à garder le contrôle, un peu comme sur les Classes G (multicoques géants) utilisés sur les records de vitesse au large. C'est d'ailleurs à bord d'un bateau de ce type (le maxi-catamaran Orange) que Nick a remporté le Trophée Jules Verne en 2002 aux côtés de Bruno Peyron et de son équipage français.
