ON THE MOVE

I am currently in London as a guest of Sky Sports providing comments and analysis for their Americas Cup coverage programme. I have just returned from a week in Hong Kong where I have been representing my sponsor Skandia in a support role for their Asian Conference, including presenting to staff and their client and industry partners. Whilst I was in Asia, Skandia also announced their alliance with the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) as title sponsor of its sail training courses. The courses are aimed at young sailors and adults and are yet another opportunity for men and women to try their hand at sailing, maybe a star of the future will emerge from such a programme?

Prior to my trip to Hong Kong I was in Cowes UK race training on the ‘extreme40’ multi hull. If you have look in the Campaign Info of this site you will see more information regarding this class. I am really looking forward to competing in this years series of events that will take us to some really awesome places beginning with Germany at the end of May, then Switzerland, UK, Monaco, South France (Mediterranean), UK again for Skandia Cowes Week, Italy and the Netherlands.
The boats are amazing and 20+ knots of boat speed is easily achieved. I am really looking forward to the season. It’s going to be difficult but a great experience. The courses are designed to bring exciting sailing closer to the public and the chosen venues are often confined spaces which will definitely create some issues when trying to maneuver the boats at high speed.
Once I finish my guest period with Sky Sports I will be heading back to Cowes on the Isle of Wight in UK for a final ‘extreme40’ training session before we pack the boat up and truck it to London for display then onto Munich for our first event.
